Australian bowling spearhead Mitchell Starc got married to his long-time girlfriend Alyssa Healy on Friday as they become one of the a few couples who have played Test cricket for their country. The Aussie couple has been dating for a while now and since Starc has been out of Australian squad as he suffered a leg injury during Australia’s historic series against New Zealand. He had to miss out the Australia’s tour of New Zealand , ICC World T20 2016 in India and ongoing IPL in India. Australia surely missed his service during their campaign in India which ended at the group stage itself. Australian were knocked out by India in must-win the match before the hosts were beaten by the eventual champions Wes Indies in the semifinal in Mumbai.
Alyssa Healy is from a cricketing family as well. Her uncle, Ian Healy was one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen Australia ever had. Coincidentally, Alyssa also keeps wickets for the Southern Stars in all formats. She recently was seen in action in the T20 World Cup in India where Australians were beaten by the West Indies in the final.
Just before the Women’s World T20, Starc was seen giving tips to Alyssa about playing in India. It was the very first time Alyssa was playing in India in the shortest format of the game and her partner was there with her to help the cricketer with his experience. “I have had a few discussions with him about different grounds over here and what they play It’s nice to be able to swap notes like that. He has only had a bit of experience over here, but it is nice coming from a bowlers point of view to see where they may target,” Alyssa said prior to the World T20 2016.
Starc and Alyssa now join the English couple Roger Prideaux and Ruth Westbrook Prideaux were also Test cricketers. While Roger played three Tests for England from 1968 to 1969, Ruth appeared in 11 Tests between 1957 and 1963.
