Pakistan have suffered a huge blow ahead of their quarter-final against Australia as their lanky pacer Mohammad Irfan has been ruled out with a stress fracture of the pelvis. The PCB has confirmed that Saeed Ajmal will be called as his replacement if Pakistan manage to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Irfan, who missed the Ireland clash due to a quad injury, underwent an MRI scan on March 16th and the radiologist’s report showed a stress injury of the pelvis but was inconclusive. Pakistan team’s physiotherapist Brad Robinson asked for a more detailed scan and it confirmed an obvious stress fracture in the pelvis.
It’s a huge loss for Pakistan considering the form Irfan was in. He was a crucial part of Pakistan’s progression in the last eight, having taken 4-30 against Zimbabwe and 3-29 in an outstanding win over South Africa.
