Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has not played an international game ever since India’s exit at the 2019 World Cup tournament in England. Since then, he made himself unavailable for the national team selection and his future in the Indian national cricket team has not been confirmed yet.
From Harbhajan Singh to Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma, players and cricket pundits spoke a lot about MS Dhoni’s future. Even Indian head coach Ravi Shastri told in a press conference about MS Dhoni’s comeback is totally based on his performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Many fans were eagerly waiting for the 13th edition of IPL as it was the right platform for the 38-year-old veteran player to prove his form and fitness.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was expected to get back in full swing after his nine-month-long sabbatical since the last year’s World Cup semi-final against the eventual runners-up New Zealand. Unexpectedly, the IPL 2020 has been postponed for an indefinite period due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis which has, in fact, delayed MS Dhoni’s much-awaited return to the cricket field.
MS Dhoni was putting in a lot of hard work in the build-up to the IPL: Michael Hussey
Former Aussie cricketer Michael Hussey, who played with Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings before becoming their batting coach, has claimed MS Dhoni knows exactly what needs to be done to get ready for the IPL.
“MSD is a seasoned and hardened professional. He knows what he needs to do to get ready physically and mentally. He was putting in a lot of hard work in the lead up to the IPL. I am sure it won’t take him too long to get to the level he needs to play well and contribute,” Michael Hussey told The Times Of India.
With IPL 2020 has postponed for an indefinite period, there is still no clarity as to when the sporting activities will resume. Recently, Sunil Gavaskar told that the live sports would take up to five months to resume while also adding that playing behind closed doors is the last resort.
