Recently, we came across Sunil Gavaskar called the selection panel of India ”Lame Ducks” for not conducting a meeting to reappoint the skipper of the Indian National Cricket Team. Meanwhile, the chairman of the selection panel MSK Prasad makes his voice on the comment and feels those comments will further bring strength to the panel members.
Sunil Gavaskar has hit out at the BCCI selection committee and also questioned the way captain Virat Kohli is getting to choose his team, in a column for Mid-Day.
Gavaskar questioned the way the selection committee chose the team for the upcoming tour of West Indies and even called for players of better stature to be a part of the group.
He also raised questions about how the committee decided to continue with Virat Kohli as the skipper of the team without even holding a meeting, which is generally the norm.
We have the utmost respect for legendary players – MSK Prasad
Finally, he also questioned the merit of the selection committee suggesting that the current committee does not have players of stature and gets bullied by the team management.
In an interview with Press Trust of India, the chairman of the selection committee spoke on a variety of issues ranging from the jibes on his stature, allegations that the team management bullies him, lack of vision and the ‘lame duck’ jibe by Sunil Gavaskar.
”It is very unfortunate. We have the utmost respect for the legendary cricketers. Every opinion expressed by them is taken in right earnest. They have their viewpoints which is well-received. In fact, more than getting hurt by this kind of comments, it only makes this selection committee stronger, committed and united,” MSK Prasad said.
Well, it seems like MSK Prasad and his panel members were hurt with the comment made by Sunil Gavaskar. However, the selection committee, led by MSK Prasad, announced Kohli as the skipper in all three formats after announcing India’s squad for the West Indies tour, last week.
Meanwhile, certain sections in the BCCI have also been vocal that splitting the captaincy could be a way forward for the Indian team as they now look to plan for the 2023 World Cup.
