Navdeep Saini said that he just back his strength to keep the things simple in the Super Over after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in Super Over on Monday night.
In the Super Over, Mumbai Indians were able to score only seven runs as Navdeep Saini bowled a brilliant over and Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers chased it down without any difficulty. In the match, both Mumbai and Bangalore posted 201 runs on the board.
Navdeep Saini Decided To Back His Strength And Kept It Simple In Super Over
Navdeep Saini is one of the brightest fast bowling prospects in India and can quite comfortably clock in excess of 140 kmph on the speed gun. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils in the tenth edition of the league. 2018 Player Auction saw a fierce bidding war for the youngster and RCB successfully emerged on top to buy him for INR 3cr.
“When I came to bowl the Super Over, there were a lot of plans in my mind, in the end, I decided to back my strength (bowling yorkers and slower balls) and I just kept it simple.
“When I was hit for a boundary in the Super Over, I just wanted to conclude the over by conceding a single. I backed my yorker and then I followed it up with a slower ball,” Saini told Shivam Dube in a video posted on iplt20.com.
In the match against Mumbai Indians, RCB left out regular wicket-keeper Josh Philippe and AB De Villiers donned the gloves to do the wicket-keeping duties. With bat in hand, he had played an unbeaten knock of 55 runs off just 24 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes to take RCB’s score to 201/3 in the allotted twenty overs.
Navdeep Saini has picked up 13 wickets from 16 matches in IPL. He did not pick up a wicket in his quota of 4 overs but bowled well in Super Over.
Ishan Kishan’s 99 In Vain As RCB Wins Via Super Over
Chasing 202, Mumbai Indians found itself at 78/4, but it was then that wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan got together with all-rounder Kieron Pollard at the crease and the duo formed a stand of 119 runs to take the side closer to the target.
Ishan Kishan played a stellar knock of 99, studded with two fours and nine sixes. On the other hand, Kieron Pollard registered unbeaten innings of 60 off just 24 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes.
For RCB, spinner Washington Sundar was the standout bowler. He just conceded 12 runs in his quota of four overs besides picking up the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma.
On the other hand, Navdeep Saini went wicketless and finished with figures of 0-43 in his four overs. The pacer also bowled the Super Over, in which he conceded just seven runs even though Pollard and Hardik Pandya were at the middle.
RCB has played three matches in the tournament so far and the side has managed to win two out of these three losing to KXIP and winning against SRH and MI. The Virat Kohli-led side will next play against Rajasthan Royals on October 3.
