New Zealand vs India 2019, 1st T20I – Stats Preview

After the completion of ODI series, the hosts New Zealand and the visiting side India are now set to play the three-match T20I series. They will play the first T20I of the series on Wednesday (6 February) at Westpac Stadium (Wellington).

Before the Wellington T20I, here we are looking at some essential stats preview.

1. The Westpac Stadium (Wellington) has organized nine T20Is, where the first batting team won twice and the second batting team won seven times. First batting average = 152.33 (average run-rate = 7.63) and second batting average = 130.67 (average run-rate = 8.12).

2. New Zealand has played nine T20Is at this venue. Out of those, they won six times and lost three times.

3. India has played only T20I at this venue in 2009. They lost that thrilling T20I by five wickets in the final ball of the match.

1. New Zealand and India have met eight times in T20I cricket. New Zealand won six T20Is and India won two T20Is. However, India has never beaten New Zealand in T20Is outside the Indian soil. Both have met twice in New Zealand, and both times New Zealand won the matches.

2. In their last 10 T20Is, New Zealand won only twice and lost the other eight times.

3. In their previous 10 T20Is, India won seven matches, lost two matches and one had no results.

1. New Zealand cricketer Colin Munro will play his 50th T20I. He will be seventh New Zealand cricketer to play 50 or more T20Is.

2. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (553 runs) is 67 runs away to become the most T20I run-scorer as a host captain. South African captain Faf du Plessis is leading the table with 619 runs.

3. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (1,002 runs) is one run away to become the third most T20I run-scorer as a captain. Currently, he is the joint third in this list with the Ireland captain William Porterfield (1,002 runs). The top two in this list are Faf du Plessis (South Africa) and MS Dhoni (India) who have scored 1,252 runs and 1,112 runs respectively.

4. New Zealand pacer Tim Southee (34 wickets) is two wickets away to become the highest T20I wicket-taker at home. Bangladesh left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan is currently leading the list with 35 T20I wickets at home.

Indian cricketers’ stats

1. Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma (2,237 runs) needs to score 36 more runs to surpass the leading T20I run-scorer Martin Guptill (New Zealand) who has scored 2,272 runs. At present, Rohit Sharma is the third highest run-scorer in T20I history while the second highest run-scorer Shoaib Malik (Pakistan/ICC World XI – 2,245 runs) will also play a T20I game against South Africa on Wednesday.

2. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni (1,487 runs) needs to score 13 more runs to complete his 1,500 T20I runs. Among the T20I wicketkeepers, only Mohammad Shahzad (Afghanistan) is ahead of MS Dhoni who has scored 1,918 T20I runs.

3. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni (515 runs) is seven runs away to have most runs in away T20Is as a wicket-keeper batsman. The former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum is on top of this list with 521 runs.
