Nick Webb, the former New Zealand Rugby League trainer, is the top favourite to become India’s new Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Shankar Basu was the last Strength and Conditioning Coach of the men’s national team. He completed his tenure at the end of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Later, he didn’t wish to extend his tenure in this position.

Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are busy to find out a new person to take this role. On Sunday (1st September), the BCCI has announced the three shortlisted candidates in the order of priority for the vacant post of Strength and Conditioning Coach of the men’s national team.

While Nick Webb is on top of the final shortlisted list, Luke Woodhouse and Rajnikanth Sivagnanam are in the next two positions.

Earlier, during the interview process, 12 candidates were present for this post. Later, the BCCI sorted out to five candidates for the practical assessment. Apart from the final three shortlisted candidates, Grant Luden and Anand Date were also in that list.

Recently, the five shortlisted candidates were present for the practical assessment at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The All-India Senior Selection Committee and the fitness expert Ranadeep Moitra conducted that process.

Finally, on Sunday, the BCCI announced the top three shortlisted candidates for the post of Strength and Conditioning Coach. The BCCI will soon announce their final decision on this.

Nick Webb has worked with some cricket teams

The 32-year-old Nick Webb has several experiences with the cricket teams. He worked for the New Zealand women’s national cricket team, Central Districts – the New Zealand first-class side. Further, he has also worked with the several New Zealand Rugby League teams.

Meanwhile, Luke Woodhouse is the present Strength and Conditioning Coach of the England Women’s Rugby team. On the other hand, Rajnikanth Sivagnanam is the fitness coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals (DC).
