No Regrets For Missing Bangladesh Tour, Says England Captain Eoin Morgan 1

England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has insisted that he has no regrets over withdrawing from the ODI series against Bangladesh in the view of security concerns.

The southpaw’s decision has brought in a lot of criticism from the fans in Bangladesh but the skipper expressed his confidence of security in India tour.

Both Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales withdrew from the ODI series against Bangladesh in the wake of terrorist attacks happened in Dhaka.

He said: ‘I weighed up the question: ‘Would I be able to perform as a captain and as a player given the security concerns in Bangladesh?’ I’m still comfortable with the decision. I tried to imagine all the different circumstances and didn’t feel comfortable enough to go and be able to perform.

‘Ultimately the previous experiences that I’ve been through contributed a small bit to my decision.’

Asked why he was still considering playing in the IPL next year, he replied: ‘One thing that had changed from 2010 in India was that other teams had travelled there and security had increased.

‘Being the first western team to travel to Bangladesh since the terrorist attack, and the fact that Australia had pulled out even before the attack, was another reason.’

England is set to play three ODIs and three T20Is that start in January as they look to get some positive results after the utter dominance of India in the five-match test series.

‘We’re a tightly knit group who back each other’s decisions no matter what the case, and in particular in this case, where every decision was whatever was right for the individual.

‘I think creating the platform for everybody to feel comfortable, and not begrudging anybody for going or not going, shows the strength within the side.’

The 30-year old is in Australia at the moment as he is keen to get some runs under his belt before the tough test in India as he has not played any international cricket in over three months.

‘Everyone within the game that I trust has supported me, players — ex and current — who I lean on for big decisions,’ he said. ‘I am certainly happy with the decision I made.’
