With just a few days left before 2018 comes to an end, the ongoing year will see no more ODIs being played. Well, the year did witness some classical games which will remain etched in the fans’ memory for a long long time. New Zealand hosted Pakistan in the first ODI series of the year. But contrary to the popular speculations, the reigning Champions Trophy holders completely failed to compete in tough conditions as New Zealand swept the series 5-0.
Few days later, South Africa hosted India in a six-match ODI series. And that series also panned out in an unexpected manner. India thoroughly dominated the contest to win the series 5-1. But as the year progressed, we saw some absolute gems in the 50-over format. Scotland beating world number England for the first time in their history, Afghanistan nearly pulling off a stunning win over India, the thrilling Asia Cup final, England slamming a record 481 against Australia were some of the most memorable games of the year.
2018 also witnessed some breathtaking individual performances. The likes of Virat Kohli, Fakhar Zaman, Alex Hales played some stunning innings with the bat while the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Rashid Khan and many others came up with some commendable efforts with the ball.
So with 2018 almost coming to an end, we take a look at the ODI team of the year. We have selected the team on the basis of the players’ performance this year, giving utmost importance to their overall importance:
