PAK vs WI 2018: Ankle Injury Rules Veerasammy Permaul Out of Series
Beleaguered Windies have suffered another setback ahead of the do-or-die second T20I match against Pakistan.
Their left-arm bowler Veerasammy Permaul, who could bowl just three balls in the series-opener, has been ruled out of the series with an ankle injury.
Permaul twisted his ankle while bowling in his first T20I before being taken off the field on a stretcher. He was soon taken to the Aga Khan Hospital for further treatment.
“The medical report has revealed that Permaul has ruptured his ankle,” a Cricket West Indies official said.
He also added the bowler is unfit for the remaining two matches. However, he will stay in Pakistan and will leave with the whole squad. With Permaul injured, the Windies are now left with only 12 players.
Permaul, however, is expected to stay in Pakistan and he will travel home with the rest of his teammates. The injury has now left Windies with only 12 players for the remaining two games.
Meanwhile, the Windies will be looking to bounce back after the heavy defeat in the first game. Chasing 204, they were bowled out for a paltry 60 in the 20th over.
With several big names out of the team, the visitors struggled to put up a good challenge. However, skipper Jason Mohammad is confident that the depleted side can do the work.
“Obviously it’s nice when you have experienced players, but we can’t do much at this point of time because the guys have gone off to the IPL,” Mohammed said after the defeat. “Yes, we have an inexperienced team, but I think the guys here can do the job as well. A couple of senior guys and some youngsters, who have come here, they are quite capable of doing the job. Hopefully, we will do the job tomorrow, especially with the bat.”
The second and third T20Is will be played on April 2 and 3.
