Pat Cummins Predicts Virat Kohli Won’t Score a Century Against Australia this Summer
The Indian tour of Australia is still quite a few months away, but the mind games had already started. Aussie speedster Pat Cummins has predicted that India skipper Virat Kohli will not score a century when India tours Down Under for a full series later in the year.
Kohli had already smashed five Test centuries in Australia, and hence it was an optimistic prediction made by Cummins.
“My brave, bold prediction; I’d say I think Virat Kohli is not going to get a hundred and we’re going to knock them off over here,” Cummins was quoted as saying in a Channel 7 event.
Kohli averages a staggering 62 in Australia and will be hoping to continue his prowess Down Under. The visitors have a great chance of winning their maiden Test series in the absence of Steven Smith and David Warner.
Meanwhile, Aussie pacer Glenn McGrath has opined the same views as Cummins. He is perhaps more optimistic as he predicts a 4-0 scoreline in favour of Australia.
McGrath also wants Australia to test Kohli.
“I want to see Australians put pressure on Kohli and just see how he handles it. It’s going to be a good, hard, tough series. Kohli has got a bit of an aggressive attitude, but showed last time he was out here he’s not going to take a backward step,” he said.
“The Windies of the late 70s, early 80s were an incredible team, and they used to target the captain of the opposition team and get on top of him and have a big impact. I tried to bring that in by targeting players when I played.
McGrath has his say on the upcoming tour
“If you get on top of them, the No.1 player and their captain, it makes the job so much easier. If they can get on top of Kohli I think it can have a big effect on the game,” McGrath added.
India will be touring Down Under for the 17th time this summer. The Indians are yet to win a series in Australia after 11 attempts. They drew the series in 1981, 1985 and 2003. The visiting team have won only five in 44 Tests.
Kohli is undoubtedly the best batsman of the modern generation, and his form will be very crucial in the next couple of months.
