PCB Asks Explanation From Basit Ali For His Comments On India During World Cup 2019

After his comments on India during the ICC World Cup 2019, the contract for Basit Ali was kept on hold by the Pakistan Cricket Board. He was asked to give an explanation for such comments, as it would definitely bring Pakistan’s character down globally.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has made quite a few outrageous claims about India’s World Cup campaign. One of the many shocking claims made by Ali was when he said that India will deliberately lose their matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh so that Pakistan does not make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup.

PCB was found in an embarrassing situation:

Further, he went on to add saying that the Virat Kohli-led side has intentionally taken the game down to the wire against Afghanistan side. And also, he questioned the approach of David Warner against the Indian team.

A source, as per PTI, quoted that PCB is waiting to give a green signal to Basit Ali. He is at first slot in the race for a head coach role to a region team Karachi. Basit Ali was asked to give an explanation for such remarks.

“The board, in fact, conveyed to Basit in clear terms. Since he was a Test player and working for them on assignments he should explain and avoid his reckless comments on television. The PCB found itself in an embarrassing situation. Because of the reckless comments by Basit which were without any evidence or substance as internationally this hurt the image of Pakistan cricket,” the source stated.

PCB now has second thoughts on Basit Ali recruitment:

It is learnt that PCB is waiting to take a call on Basit’s role as head coach for the regional team Karachi as well. They are in doubts, as the appointment of Basit Ali would bring a wrong impression on Pakistan Cricket across the world.

“The thing is that the PCB now has second thoughts about Basit. As Karachi regional coach and wondering. If they appoint him, what impression this will create internationally since Pakistan is a senior member of the International Cricket Council,” he added.

PCB had shortlisted Basit for a coaching assignment in Karachi region. However, they now put that decision on hold. All in all, it would be interesting to see how Basit Ali gets over it. He already worked as chairman of the national junior selection committee.
