Former Australian captain Ian Chappell urged the disgraced Australian trio not to challenge the bans sanctioned by Cricket Australia (CA) in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.
Also, Chappell feels CA has done Smith and Warner a favour by sidelining them until May 2019.
CA handed Warner and Smith a 12-month ban each while Cameron Bancroft has been suspended for nine months. Also, Smith and Bancroft will not lead any Australia team for the next two years while CA debarred from captaincy forever.

However, as of now, all three men were considering the merits of challenging their bans at a CA Code of Behaviour hearing.
Simultaneously, Chappell maintains it would be unwise for them to do so.
“The players would be silly to appeal,” he said on Channel 9’s Sports Sunday.
“As far as I’m concerned Cricket Australia has done Warner and Smith a huge favour because they’ve banned them for 12 months,” he added.
The former cricketer Ian Chappell feels that longer they stay out of the game the more chance they have of re-entering the national fold without drawing any public ire anymore.
“Imagine if next summer they’re playing in Australia and they are getting booed by their home crowd,” he said. “That’s one, not going to do their confidence any good. Two, it’s not going to their rehab much good. And three, it’s not going the Cricket Australia image much good at all, so I think it’s a sensible ban,” Chappell added.
Meanwhile, the trio did a press conference individually after reaching Australia. They apologised for their wrongdoings and urged for forgiveness. They all acknowledge erring in Cape Town but haven’t formally accepted or challenged their charge or sanctions issued by CA.
The decisions are unlikely to come until Tuesday at the earliest. The deadline is Thursday (March 5).
