Suresh Raina shared on Twitter a congratulatory letter sent by Indian Prime Minister — Narendra Modi to him. In the letter, PM Narendra Modi thanked Suresh Raina for bringing laurels to the nation and inspiring the youth. Pertinently, Raina announced his retirement on Saturday, August 15, just after former Indian skipper MS Dhoni bid adieu to the international cricket.

The Indian star batsman had a decent white-ball career with Team India, earning the southpaw a reputation of one of the greatest left-handed batsmen from India. He is a very close friend of his Team India and CSK teammate and skipper MS Dhoni and has followed his path to retirement at the same time.

PM Narendra Modi lauded Suresh Raina’s  contribution for the country’s cricketing glory. He mentioned his exemplary all-rounding skills who always delivered whether it be from the bat or the ball.

“Generations will remember you not only as a fine batsman but also as a very useful bowler who the captain could turn to when the situation demanded. Your fielding was exemplary and inspiring. Some of the best catches in recent international cricket have your distinctive imprint. It would take days to count just the number of runs you have saved by your alertness on the field,” said PM Narendra Modi

 “India can never forget your inspiring role during the 2011 World Cup.Your fighting spirit can motivate many youngsters. During your cricketing career, you sometimes faced setbacks including injuries but every time you overcame these challenges, thanks to your tenacity. At the same time, Suresh Raina will always be synonymous with team spirit. You played not for personal glory but for the glory of your team and the glory of India,” he wrote.

Suresh Raina is a solid hitter of the ball is a joy to watch. The 33-year-old has played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for India. The left-handed batsman scored 5,615 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 35.31.

In Test cricket, he only managed to register 768 runs, with his highest score being 120. In T20Is, Raina scored 1,605 runs at an average of 29.18 for the blues.

Raina will be seen in action in the IPL for CSK starting September 19th. He has joined the six-day training camp at Chennai and will be leaving for the UAE on 21 August with the team. He has enjoyed the IPL thoroughly and has 5,386 runs in 193 appearances.
