Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congratulates Padma Award Winners

Former India captain MS Dhoni received the country’s third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan from President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan, yesterday.

Pankaj Advani, the world-renowned cueist also won the prestigious award.

Meanwhile, Dhoni came to the ceremony in his Lieutenant Colonel uniform. Further, he walked like army personnel when he went to receive the award.

The Indian Territorial Army awarded Dhoni the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on November 1, 2011, months after India won their second World Cup.

Surprisingly, Dhoni received the award exactly seven years after since he lifted the ICC Cricket World Cup.

India lifted the much-coveted trophy on Apri 2, 2011 ending 28 years draft. Further, Dhoni hit a brilliant six to bring joy to the face of 1.2 billion people. Untitled-16

The 36-year old Dhoni is the eleventh Indian cricketer to receive this prestigious honour.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has many feathers to his name, including the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 (the first player to win the award twice), the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007 and the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour in 2009.

Besides the duo, men’s singles shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth, former Asian Games gold medallist tennis player, Somdev Devvarman, 2017 World Weightlifting champion in the 48kg category, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, and India’s first Paralympic gold medallist, Murlikant Petkar also received the Padma Shri – fourth-highest civilian award this year.
