Cricketers in India have always had the privilege of having a huge fan following and some of the political parties have tried to make the most of this popularity.
Former cricketers like Navjyot Singh Sidhu, Kirti Azad, Praveen Kumar, Mohammed Kaif and Mohammed Azharuddin have tried their hands at politics, but very few have had success in the field.
This time it was the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) which tried to rope in former Indian captains, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble to attract the support of the Karnataka youth in the assembly polls.

According to the latest reports, BJP had tried to convince Dravid and Kumble in the past few weeks against Siddaramaiah’s mandatory Congress regime.
Both Kumble and Dravid carry a reputation that would help them grab votes of the youngsters during the May 12 polls.
However, it seems like the efforts of the political party have gone in vain, as the duo hailing from Bangalore, have rejected the offer to join the party.
BJP however, have not yet given up and are still trying to convince anyone of them. A source close to the party said,
“Talks are still on. At least one of them desires to be fielded for the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha. We have not lost all hope yet.”
