Before IPL 2018, Uthappa was named KKR’s vice-captain but he scored 633 runs in 28 matches across two seasons under Dinesh Karthik.
Uthappa, during his stint, was one of the key players for KKR for long. He first joined KKR in IPL 2014 auction for Rs 5 Crore. Uthappa was retained by them via Right to Match Card (RTM) for Rs 6.40 Crore at IPL 2018 auction and was also elevated to the post of vice-captain.
An IPL veteran, Uthappa has scored 4411 runs in 177 IPL matches so far. He did not have a great buildup to IPL 2020 auction as Uthappa just scored 112 runs in eight Vijay Hazare Trophy matches and followed up with 139 runs in six Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches. Although Uthappa started Ranji Trophy with a century against Delhi.
