Rajeev Shukla Reveals Their Earlier IPL Commitment On “Mankading”

The world cricket has divided on Ravichandran Ashwin‘s recent “mankading” incident to dismiss Jos Buttler. Meanwhile, the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla has revealed their earlier commitment on “mankading”.

On last Monday night (25th March), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) began their IPL 2019 journey when they met at Sawai Mansingh Stadium (Jaipur).

During that game, the RR opening batsman Jos Buttler became the first batsman in IPL history to face the “mankading” dismissal. He was batting powerfully at that moment when the KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him.

When the non-striker batsman leaves the bowling end crease before the bowler’s ball release, the bowler is permitted to dismiss the non-striker by dislodging the bowling-end bails. As the former Indian cricketer Vinoo Mankad did this incident for the first time in international cricket to dismiss Bill Brown (Australia), this dismissal is unofficially known as “Mankading”.

However, many believe that the “mankading” is against the spirit of cricket, especially doing it without giving at least one warning to that non-striker-end batsman.

During the RR vs KXIP match on Monday night, Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t warn Jos Buttler before dismissing him. While some people are supporting Ravichandran Ashwin, many people have also criticised him for “mankading”.

On Monday night, after that match, Rajeev Shukla revealed their earlier commitment on “mankading”. On his official Twitter account, he claimed that they had an earlier talk about this with the IPL captains and match referees. He clarified that they decided not to follow the “mankading” dismissal during IPL.

Rajeev Shukla wrote, “If I remember in one of the meetings of captains & match referee where I was also present as chairman it had been decided that if non-striking batsman steps out bowler as a courtesy will not run him out @IPL @BCCI”

Later, he also revealed that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were present in that meeting.

He added, “Most probably this meeting was in Kolkata on the eve of one of the editions of ipl where Dhoni & Virat both were present @BCCI @IPL”

That run-out became the turning point of the game

Coming to Jos Buttler’s recent “mankading” dismissal, it was the turning point of that game. Earlier, RR sent the visiting side KXIP to bat first after winning the toss. With the help of Chris Gayle‘s 79 runs, KXIP managed to score 184/4 in 20 overs.

In reply, Jos Buttler provided a fiery start for the home team. Before that controversial dismissal, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman scored 69 runs off 43 balls. When he was in the crease, the host side was in a good position. But after his dismissal, the host side struggled to chase that target. They finally scored 170/9 (20 overs) and lost that match by 14 runs.
