Former Indian captain and Team Director Ravi Shastri applied for the post of Team India coach on Monday.

Shastri was Team Director for 18 months. He sent the application for the top job, along with a presentation, to the BCCI on Monday.

BCCI has created a separate email id for all applicants and will open them on June 10.

BCCI will also name a scrutiny committee to screen the applications, sources told the channel.

Shastri’s contract come to an end when India lost the World T20 semifinal to  West Indies at Wankhede.

Chief selectors Sandeep Patil also applied for the top job. It is expected that Sanjay Bangar will also apply for the same.

Meanwhile, former India allrounder Sanjay Bangar has been appointed the national head coach for the limited-overs tour of Zimbabwe. While ex-Ranji cricketer Abhay Sharma has been named the fielding coach for the tour which will start from June 11. The board also announced that former cricketer Koka Ramesh will be the administrative manager for the tour.

India will play the first One-Day International (ODI) on June 11. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led young Indian brigade will take on Zimbabwe in three ODIs and as many T20Is in Harare.

Just a few days after the BCCI invited applications for the vacant post of India senior men’s team head coach through its website, chief selector Sandeep Patil has thrown his hat into the ring for the high-profile job.
