The spread of Coronavirus has forced people to remain indoors. This is the first time a virus has affected sporting events across the globe. The major events of every country stand cancelled until the situation becomes better. In India, the cricket annual carnival Indian Premier League had to also face the consequences of the pandemic.

To curb the mass gathering in stadiums, BCCI has taken the step to postpone the game till mid-April. However, India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels that coronavirus fear has not affected his home town.

Taking to Twitter, the off-spinner expressed that social distancing hasn’t caught the people of Chennai yet despite the COVID-19 pandemic which has created panic and fear all over the globe.

Amid coronavirus scare, Ravichandran Ashwin tweets on ‘social distancing’ in Chennai:

“Let me rephrase it, social distancing doesn’t seem to have caught the attention of the people in Chennai yet. The only reason could be their belief in the summer to curtail it or just faith that nothing will happen. #Coronaindia,” Ashwin wrote on his official Twitter account.

Notably, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has strictly advised to avoid public gatherings. As of now, the coronavirus’ death toll has reached 6000 while infecting nearly 1,60,000 people across the world.

In India, two deaths have been reported with 107 cases reported till Sunday night.

Not only the leagues have been cancelled but also major international matches have been called off. Earlier, the England team reached Sri Lanka to play the series which was later cancelled by ECB. The team was called back to the country.

The ODI series between New Zealand and Australia was halted in between after playing one match.

However, Pakistan Super League is being played behind the closed doors but 10 foreign players and a coach have withdrawn the name from the league.

Moreover, there is no fixed date when all the games will restart. So, it advised everyone to take every precaution to kill the spread of COVID-19.
