The everlasting debate of comparisons between a player to a player once again made to the headlines when Ricky Ponting was asked to give his opinion on the comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. However, unlike everyone, Ponting has got a unique answer for it, which would put those kinds of questions to rest at least for some period.
Without any ray of a doubt, we can call them the symbols of two unique eras of cricket. One faced the solid bowling attack with not much technical support and used to carry the whole burden of the team.
While on the other hand, we have got the current Indian National Cricket Team Skipper Virat Kohli, who has been pretty consistent on a regular basis despite the game being evolved vastly on a regular basis.
The former had created the thunderous records to his name while the latter is breaking all of them. How amazing is that to see Sachin Tendulkar name on the every cricketing record getting broken by Virat Kohli?
If Virat Kohli has a good world cup, India will win the cup – Ricky Ponting
However, none can give us the sheerest comparison between the two players. Meanwhile, the former skipper of Australia Ricky Ponting opined that one can answer the question when Virat Kohli concludes his cricketing career.
He explained that Virat Kohli is maintaining great numbers across the formats. But, Sachin Tendulkar maintained for quite a period of time. So, Ponting believes that it can be answered only after Kohli concluding his cricketing career.
”I don’t think we can get to the conclusion till Virat’s career is over. Only then will we have a clearer picture. Sachin is a legend. Yes, you can say Virat is piling up runs. His Test average is more than 50 (53.76). But Sachin maintained that (average) in 200 Tests,” he said.
”Virat’s ODI record, though, is unbelievable. That’s why I feel India are a very dangerous side. If Virat has a good World Cup, India will win,” Ricky Ponting told Cricbuzz.
Despite all the records, the fact that always remains intact is that Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar made cricket a religion in India while Virat Kohli inspired young generations to take cricket as a career goal.
