Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Create Records In T20 Cricket

Indian leaders Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both created records during the Lauderhill T20I against Windies on Sunday (4th August).

Leading this T20I series by 1-0, India faced Windies in the second T20I of the three-match series on Sunday. On last Saturday (3rd August), India beat Windies in the first T20I by four wickets at the same venue.

In the second T20I, Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first after winning the toss. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made a strong start as they had a 67-run partnership. After Dhawan was out on 23 runs, Sharma and Kohli provided a 48-run partnership for the second wicket.

The limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma scored 67 runs off 51 balls with six fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper Kohli scored 28 runs off 23 balls with one four and one six.

The strong top-order batting performances helped India to manage a fighting first innings total of 167/5 (20 overs).

Rohit Sharma has registered the record number of 50+ scores in T20I history

It was the 21st T20I 50+ score for Rohit Sharma. Surpassing Virat Kohli, Sharma becomes the most 50+ run-scorer in T20I history. Kohli is now in the second position with 20 times 50+ scores in T20I cricket.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also becomes the leader of the most T20I sixes as a batsman. Surpassing the Caribbean star Chris Gayle, who has hit 105 T20I sixes, Sharma has hit 107 T20I sixes.

Virat Kohli is the leading T20 run-scorer in Indian cricket history

On the other hand, Virat Kohli becomes the leading T20 run-scorer in Indian cricket history. After this innings, Kohli has scored 8,416 runs in T20 career. During this innings, he surpassed Suresh Raina – the previous leading T20 run-scorer as an Indian batsman. Raina has scored 8,392 runs in T20 career.

With this latest achievement, Kohli has climbed up to the sixth position in the most T20 run-scorer table. The top five batsmen in this list are Chris Gayle (12,808 runs), Brendon McCullum (9,922 runs), Kieron Pollard (9,365 runs), David Warner (8,803 runs) and Shoaib Malik (8,701 runs).
