On Monday (7th October), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the Test players’ rankings. Rohit Sharma, who has recently become a super hit in his first assignment as a Test opener, has climbed up to his best-ever Test career ranking. Meanwhile, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has returned to the top 10 positions in the Test bowling rankings.
India dominated in the recently concluded Visakhapatnam Test against the visitors South Africa. Many Indian players shined in that game. But Rohit Sharma was the hero of that match as he was super hit in that game.
The latest Test batting ranking of Rohit Sharma is 17
Rohit Sharma played that Test match as an opener and it was the first time in his Test career to play as an opener. The right-handed batsman scored 176 and 127 runs in that game and put his name into some top reputed record books. He became the batsman who scored most runs in his first assignment as a Test opener. Also, in that same match, Rohit became the most aggregated six-hitter as a batsman in a Test match history. The right-handed batsman hit a total of 13 sixes in that entire Test.
After playing those brilliant knocks, Rohit has now climbed up to the 17th position in Test batting rankings. It is his new best Test batting ranking. Due to scoring those twin centuries, Rohit remarkably moved up to the 36 positions to achieve the latest ranking.
Another Indian Test opener Mayank Agarwal also performed impressively in the Visakhapatnam Test. In the first innings of that Test match, Mayank registered his first Test century and stretched to 215 runs. He moved up to the 38 positions and has achieved his best-ever Test batting ranking position of 25.
Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is holding the second position in Test batting rankings but his rating has gone down. His latest rating points are 899 as he scored 20 and 31* runs in that Test match. Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane slipped down (-3) to the 10th position in Test batting rankings.
Among the South African cricketers, Quinton de Kock and Dean Elgar moved up
South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock scored a great century in that match during South Africa’s first innings. The left-handed batsman scored 111 runs in their first innings but failed to open his account in the fourth innings. He moved up four spots, and presently, he is standing at the seventh position in Test batting rankings.
On the other hand, Dean Elgar, who scored 160 runs in South Africa’s first innings, moved up to the five places. His latest Test batting ranking is 14.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami climbed up in Test bowling rankings, Ravindra Jadeja is the 2nd-ranked Test all-rounder
Among the bowlers, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has returned to the 10th position in Test bowling rankings after moving up to the four positions. Ashwin managed to pick up a total of eight wickets (8/189) in that game, including one seven-wicket haul.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami claimed a five-wicket haul in the fourth innings. His dominant bowling made easier for India to win that match by 203 runs. Shami has achieved his best rating points in Test bowling of 710 and he moved from 18th to 16th position.
Meanwhile, the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has climbed up (+1) to the second position in the Test all-rounder rankings. While the Windies captain Jason Holder is leading the table continuously, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has slipped down to the third position.
