Getting opposed from all around the cricket world, Rohit Sharma has also kept his opinion about four-day Test match idea proposed by International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC has proposed to allow four-day Test matches in the future World Test Championship from 2023.
ICC wants to decrease the number of days of Test match to free up the calendar for limited-overs formats. Also, according to stats, in past years, about 60% of the Tests ended inside the four days. But former cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar doesn’t agree with this idea, as it will bring more draw matches.
Four-day means a first-class match – Rohit Sharma
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also clearly stated that he doesn’t support such changes in the purest form of the game. Now, Rohit Sharma, who has recently earned the place in the Test team as an opener, gave a one-liner answer on his view for four-day Test match idea. He said that the four-day game is not a Test match but a first-class match.
“If it is a four-day, it is not a Test match. Four-day means a first-class match. It is as simple as that,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Cricketer’s around the world against four-day Test match
Australian Test skipper Tim Paine and spinner Nathan Lyon have directly opposed the four-day Test match, stating, removing the fifth day from the Test match will not be profitable for the game. Lyon has said that it will affect the game of spinners as the pitch assist the spinners on the fifth day.
Sachin Tendulkar also opined that it is unfair to take advantage of the spinners. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has said the four-day Test match is a ridiculous idea because it will bring more draws.
