Rohit Sharma to play in the practise match against New Zealand at Kotla

Mumbai cricket association announced their 15 member squad for their clash against the New Zealand team which is to be played in the state capital Delhi at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Mumbai will be missing on the services of 4 key players Shreyas Iyer, Akhil Herwadkar, Shardul Thakur and Dhawal Kulkarni as all the 4 key players are currently in Australia to play two unofficial Test matches against Australia A.

The Mumbai selectors have retained their regular captain Aditya Tare for this game which indicates that he will lead the team in the upcoming season as well. Former Under 19 player Armaan Jaffer have been rewarded with the maiden call-up in first-class cricket. The Nepal originated batsman Jay Bista who scored a quick-fire century in the Irani Cup has also been called up for the practise game. Surya Kumar Yadav, Vishal Dabholkar and Siddhesh Lad are automatic selections The bowling department of Mumbai looks weak in absence of Shardul and Kulkarni.

This is the perfect opportunity for Mumbai players to brush up their skills before the start of a long domestic season.

The match will be a three-day affair starting from September 16. This is the only practise game which New Zealand will participate in before kicking off the international fixture.

New Zealand will kick off the international assignment from September 22; the first Test will be played at Green Park which will be hosting a Test match after an exile of six years. Both the teams will fly to Kolkata for the second Test.

The third and the final Test match will be played in Holkar stadium, Madhya Pradesh which will be hosting a Test match for the first time. Five ODI matches series will follow the Test series. The Kiwis will announce the squad for ODI series later.

New Zealand last toured India in the year 2012 to play two Test matches and the same number of T20Is. Indian team won both the Test matches whereas the New Zealand team continued its winning streak against India in T20s.
