The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh teaming up for the first time in the history of the competition. While Rohit has played for only two franchises – now-defunct Deccan Chargers and now Mumbai Indians – in his career so far, Yuvraj has been a journeyman.
The World Cup-winning star has plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab, Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and is now gearing up to don the blue jersey.
Yuvraj Singh was looking set for more humiliation in the recently-concluded auction for the IPL. The southpaw had gone unsold in the first round of the auction despite setting his base price at INR 1 crore. It would have been a shocking moment for Yuvraj who had grabbed the headlines in the last few auctions.
In 2014, Royal Challengers Bangalore had bought him for a record price of INR 14 crore. In the following year, the Delhi franchise shelled out a whopping INR 16 crore to secure his services. Since then, Yuvraj’s price has dipped. In 2016, Yuvraj Singh went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 7 crore before being bought by Kings XI Punjab for INR 2 crore. But he would not have expected to go unsold in the latest auction.
However, Mumbai Indians gave him a lifeline by buying him at his base price at the last moment. The three-time IPL winners bought Yuvraj at his base price of Rs one crore.
And Rohit Sharma is now looking forward to playing with his India teammate. The Mumbai Indians skipper took to Twitter to welcome Yuvraj, writing:
“Welcome to the city of heroics @YUVSTRONG12.”
