Like every sport, cricket has also many rules and regulations. While some rules are standing from the beginning of this game, many rules have been developed with time progress, and some have been introduced or changed after some specific incidents.

Fielding restrictions
The fielding restrictions in the limited-overs cricket were introduced after the especially noted Sydney ODI between England and West Indies on 28th November 1979 during the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup.
In the final over of that rain-curtailed match, West Indies required ten runs to win. While the English legend Sir Ian Botham was bowling the last over, the Caribbean side added seven runs in the first five deliveries of that over.
Now, West Indies had to score three runs on the final delivery of that game. As there were no fielding restriction rules at that time, England captain Mike Brearley sent his all the fielders, including the wicket-keeper, at the boundary. In a result, West Indies lost that game by just two runs.
That game was the example of why the fielding restrictions were required in the limited-overs cricket. Finally, the fielding restrictions were introduced in the limited-overs cricket which was applied for the first time in 1980/81 Australian summer. Since then, we have experienced many changes in the rules of fielding restrictions in limited-overs cricket.
