Sachin Tendulkar 134 vs Australia in 1998 Sharjah Final
Australia posted a stiff target against India in the final thanks to Steve Waugh and Lehmann, who added 103 from 96 balls. But, to the delight of the partisan fans present at the stadium, Tendulkar celebrated his 25th birthday by hitting a second successive century, his 15th in one-day internationals. Earlier he scored a 143 vs Australia to get India into the final.
In fact most people remember his previous innings (the 143 “sandstorm” innings) that got India into the final. Fact is, if he had not produced this performance in the final itself, that innings would not have been much of relevance, and would not be remembered with a fraction of the fondness it still is. Chasing Australia’s 272, Tendulkar produced a masterfully calibrated 134 off 131 balls and finished the match off when he was out at 248 in the 45th over. India went onto register a comprehensive 6 wicket victory with 9 deliveries to spare. This truly was one of Sachin Tendulkar’s momentous innings.
