Pakistan Super League-winning captain Shaheen Afridi has been appointed as captain of the Team of the PSL 2023. Lahore Qalandars registered an epic one-run win over Multan Sultans in the thrilling final. Shaheen captained Lahore Qalandars for back-to-back titles – Qalandars is the first team to achieve the landmark in PSL.

An independent panel headed by technical committee chairman Haroon Rashid has selected Shaheen Afridi as the skipper of the team of Pakistan Super League 2023. The panel also included commentators; Bazid Khan, Daren Ganga, Nick Knight, and Sana Mir as members to select the team of the tournament in 2023.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam have been chosen as openers who had a very good outing with the bat as well as leading their franchises to playoffs, with Mohammad Haris, Rilee Rossouw, Azam Khan, and Kieron Pollard forming a formidable middle-order who can shift gears easily and finish games for their teams.

Imad Wasim is picked as an all-rounder for the team, along with the wrist spinner Rashid Khan and three fast bowlers in Shaheen Afridi, Ihsanullah, and Abbas Afridi.

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan will lead Pakistan in the T20 series against Afghanistan. The first match will be played on March 24  in Sharjah. Senior players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf are rested for the series. All the senior players will return for the series against New Zealand.

Shaheen Afridi, who led Lahore Qalandars to the second championship title, credited the entire team and support staff for their dominating performances in the league. Lahore Qalandars finished at the top of the table with 7 wins from 10 games and then went on to win the championship.

“The idea was to fight till the very end and it paid off. At that time, I felt like I should go to bat and was lucky to get a few in the slot. To reach the final a second time and win again is a great feeling. Credit to the entire team and coaching staff for keeping us comfortable,” he stated.

Shaheen Afridi was the star performer for Lahore Qalandars throughout the league–and in the final Shaheen scored a 15-ball 44 not out–and took 4 for 51 to take his team to the second consecutive championship title in two years.
