shane warne, baggy green, australia national cricket team, australia bushfire,

No matter what, the Australian cricketers never cease to surprise their fans, whether on the field or off the field. The legendary Aussie cricketer and commentator, Shane Warne steps into auction his ‘Baggy Green’ to support the victims of the deadly bushfire spread across the south-east area of the continent. However, what came in surprising was the price for which the famous cricket cap of the legendary cricketer was auctioned for.

Warne’s baggy green surpassed the auction bid of MS Dhoni’s bat and even the price of the hat of another legendary cricketer, Sir Don Bradman. The dark myrtle green was bid for a whopping $520,000 that crossed all records and became the most priced cricket accessory ever sold.

Warne’s Baggy Green labelled as the most prized cricket accessory:

Australia that is best known for its rich biodiversity is now burning in the deadly bushfire that has caused severe damage to not only the continent but to the entire world. All the prominent people around the globe have come together to support the victims of destructive wildfire.

And in order to raise the auction price, the legendary veteran cricketer Shane Warne put up his Baggy Green cap to the auction. The former leader of the Aussie team in the ODIs took to his Instagram account to post his baggy green up for the auction with a beautiful and encouraging message for everyone.

“The horrific bushfires in Australia have left us all in disbelief. The impact these devastating fires are having on so many people is unthinkable and has touched us all,” Warne wrote on Instagram. Everyone is in this together, and we continue to find ways to contribute and help on a daily basis.”

”This has led me to auction off my beloved baggy green cap (350) that I wore throughout my test career (when I wasn’t wearing my white floppy hat). I hope my baggy green can raise some significant funds to help all those people that are in desperate need.”

Surprisingly enough, baggy green surpassed the bat of the Indian veteran keeper-batsman MS Dhoni who played with that bat in the victorious ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final that went for £100,000 in 2011.

The cap fetched $520,500 surpassing the historical mark of $500,000 mark on Thursday morning. It was bid by the person named ‘M.C.’ who notched up the auctions as the bid crossed the baggy green of cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman which sold for $425,000 in 2003.

In his more than 25-year-long professional cricket career proudly donning the baggy green, Warne played 145 Tests and picked up 708 wickets – 2nd most wicket in the Test history after Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800).

Here are the most expensive cricket accessories ever sold at an auction:
