India, on Monday, scripted their first-ever Test series win in Australia. Virat Kohli’s team entered the final day of the fourth Test with hopes of a 3-1 series victory. However, wet conditions due to rain meant there was no play on Monday and umpires called it off early. Consequently, the game ended in a draw and India sealed the series 2-1. The visitors had entered the game with an unassailable lead of 2-1 and needed just a draw to secure a historic series.

That the tourists were more than likely to win the series was very much clear when they posted a massive 622 for 7 in their first innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant starred with the bat by scoring stupendous tons while Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja scored fifties. Kuldeep Yadav then starred with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul as India bowled out the hosts for just 300. Skipper Virat Kohli then asked the home side to follow-on on day four before bad light brought a premature end to the day. The weather on day five was even more worse as no play was possible at all.

India had previously failed to win a Test series in Australia in 11 previous attempts. The winless run had started way back in 1948. In the series, India also registered their first Test win since 2008. Soon after the historic triumph, Anushka Sharma, wife of skipper Virat Kohli, took to Twitter to congratulate the team.

“They came. They conquered !! History written and created by this bunch !! Huge congratulations to all players, coaching unit and support staff,” she wrote.

In another tweet, she pointed out how hard her husband worked to achieve this dream, writing:

“It takes undying perseverance & solid conviction to focus on what’s important and shut out the rest .??? So so happy and proud of you my love”
