The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 24 where they will take decisions on the fate and planning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which is likely to be played in India even though the fight against COVID-19 is still on. Apart from IPL, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will also be the point of discussion.

As per a TOI report, Ganguly will have to dodge several bouncers and be up against a ‘proverbial ambush’ during the meeting with the board members – who aren’t satisfied with him signing various brand deals after taking charge of the BCCI office. The former cricketer took over as the BCCI chief in October 2019.

The former Indian skipper will also be scrutinized over deals he has signed with brands deemed as direct competitors of BCCI and IPL sponsors. Currently, Ganguly is the brand ambassador of My 11 Circle which is the arch-rival of Dream 11, which was the title sponsor of IPL 2020. Apart from endorsing fantasy sports app, Sourav Ganguly has done ads for other several brands.

As far as IPL’s 14th edition is concerned, the Indian board is eager to host the upcoming edition, in 2021, in India. Recently, the board has also shown its willingness to add two more teams in order to justify the plethora of talent on offer in Indian cricket. Hence, the future of IPL 2021, whether one or two teams need to be added in the upcoming season, the fate of the next edition’s auction will hold great significance.

BCCI will also pour their attention towards the arrangement of the India-England series at home, to be held in February-March. The tour’s success will give a clear indication of whether the COVID-hit country can host the entire IPL season in 2021.
