After the outstanding run in the whole tournament, India Women failed to maintain that status in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. However, everyone is fully appreciating their entire efforts in this tournament.
Harmanpreet Kaur-led India Women started their journey in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 with a brilliant 17-run victory against the hosts and defending champions Australia Women.
In their Group A competition of this tournament, India Women continued their winning runs after beating all the other three teams in their group. While they beat Bangladesh Women by 18 runs and New Zealand Women by three runs, they clinched a comfortable seven wickets victory against Sri Lanka Women.

India Women qualified for the semi-finals after finishing as the group champions of Group A. They won all those four matches and earned eight points in that group stage. They had to face England Women in the semi-final of that tournament but that match was abandoned due to the rain and India Women advanced to the final due to earning more points in the group stages than England Women (6 points).
India Women lost their only match in the tournament at the final
In the final of this tournament, India Women once again faced Australia Women. This time the hosts scored 184/4 (20 overs) in the first innings while the Indian team was bundled out for just 99 runs (19.1 overs). Beating their final opponents by the whopping 85 runs, Australia Women won the WT20 WC trophy for the fifth time.
On the other hand, it was the first-ever WT20 WC final for India Women where they suffered a havoc defeat. However, this side was mostly filled with the youngsters while the Australia Women side had enough experiences and that experienced side overpowered the young Indian team.
Many stars have reacted after India’s thrashing defeat in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. While everyone congratulated the Aussie side, they also hugely appreciated the efforts from the Indian cricketers in the entire tournament.

I know how tough it is to be so close to that World Cup & not win it. But chin up, girls! It’s not about the result, but about the generation you’ve inspired. You had a campaign you can be very proud of!

India lost only one game in the tournament. So did Australia. Both teams lost to each other. India beat Aus in the tournament opener. Australia beat India in the finals. Such is life…. #WT20WC #AusvInd

I actually believe India did really well to get to the final without a major contribution from either Mandhana or Harmanpreet. For India to win, those two needed to have big tournaments. Hence my opinion that there is enough here to be optimistic about.
