Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Monday, traded their former skipper Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils in exchange for three players – Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma.
With this deal, Dhawan not only returns to his hometown but also the IPL franchise where he began his IPL career in 2008. He stayed with the Delhi Daredevils for just one season, scoring 340 runs in 14 games. The southpaw then moved to Mumbai Indians for a couple of seasons but failed to impress. In two editions, he could play only 15 games while scoring just 241 runs.
His next destination was the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. He played for the franchise in 2011 and 2012 before joining Sunrisers in 2013. It is with Sunrisers where he established himself as a big name in the league. Dhawan has consistently delivered for Sunrisers, striking a formidable partnership with David Warner. Dhawan leaves the franchise as their top-scorer. In 91 games for the Hyderabad-based outfit, he scored 2,768 runs and helped them lift the title in 2016.
Delhi will be hoping that Dhawan’s arrival help them end their last season’s top-order woes.
The team started off on the wrong foot because of Gautam Gambhir’s struggles at the top. Gambhir later stepped down after six games and did not play there after. Prithvi Shaw then stepped up and started impressing straight away. But the second opener position was one of concern. In the 9 matches that Shaw played for DD, he scored 245 runs with a strike rate of 153.12 including two fifties. The franchise would be hoping to see Dhawan and Shaw forming a formidable pair at the top.

Sunrisers Hyderabad , on the other hand, have secured the services of Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem. Shankar had impressed for the Daredevils in the last edition while Abhishek Sharma also left a big mark in just 3 games. On the other hand, Shahbaz Nadeem, who recently earned his maiden India call-up, is a well-known spinner in the domestic circuit.
