Superb Effort, Says Suresh Raina After India’s Historic Win Down Under

High-flying Team India created history on Monday when the fourth and final Test in Sydney ended in a draw due to poor weather. Consequently, the visitors won the series 2-1. India had already taken an unassailable lead in the four-match series after winning the first and third Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne respectively. The win is India’s first-ever series win Down Under.
A draw would have been enough for the world number one Test side to script history. However, the Virat Kohli-led side made it clear that they mean business. Batting first, they piled up a massive 622 for 7. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant starred with the bat by scoring stupendous tons while Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja scored fifties. Kuldeep Yadav then starred with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul as India bowled out the hosts for just 300. Skipper Virat Kohli then asked the home side to follow-on on day four before bad light brought a premature end to the day. The weather on day five was even more worse as no play was possible at all.
It was the third consecutive day in Sydney that was affected by either bad light or rain. Play was eventually called off, sending the Indian players and fans into delirium. Kohli and teammates celebrated by thanking supporters who had stuck around despite the showers.
India had previously failed to win a Test series in Australia in 11 previous attempts. The winless run had started way back in 1948. In the series, India also registered their first Test win since 2008.
Following the historic win, Suresh Raina took to Twitter to congratlate the team and hail the historic feat, writing:
“When was the last time you did something for the first time? Historic 1st Test Series win for India in Australia! Superb effort by #TeamIndia ! It may have ended in rain but that’s not going to dampen the celebrations! Proud”
