Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel, who play for Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals respectively and have some impressive performances in the Indian Premier League 2020 were ignored by the selection committee.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for India’s tour of Australia for all the three formats as injured pacers Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and also batsman Rohit Sharma were not selected for any format while dashing wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant was ignored for white-ball formats.

Suryakumar Yadav And Axar Patel Are Ignored Probably For Playing In Wrong Era According To Manoj Tiwary’s Tweet
The selection committee headed by Sunil Joshi picked the squads for all the three formats for India’s upcoming Test, ODI and T20I series against Australia. There were a few surprises as India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma wasn’t included in any of the squads while fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who is a regular in the Test set-up was also not named in the Test squad for 4-match Test series against Australia.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee met via video-conference on Monday to select the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming Tour of Australia. Team India will take part in three T20Is, three ODIs and four Test matches against Australia,” a statement released by BCCI said.
However, despite some impressive performances in the Indian Premier League 2020, Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav and Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder Axar Patel were ignored by the selection committee.
Suryakumar Yadav has notched up 283 runs in 11 matches, averaging 31.44 with 2 fifties was supposed to be named as a finisher but missed this time around. All-rounder Axar Patel who has scored 65 runs and taken 8 wickets in 10 matches wasn’t named too as Manoj Tiwary in a tweet blamed them for playing in the wrong era but suggested they could have played alongside competitors. Suryakumar Yadav has 1831 runs in 96 IPL matches averaging 28.6.
The former Bengal skipper was not in the reckoning after missing out in IPL squads in 2019 and 2020 and wasn’t selected in the Indian team after playing 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is, the last of which came in 2015.
