Team India’s three selectors Devang Gandhi, Jatin Paranjape and Sarandeep Singh are likely to continue to the role despite their four-year tenure is ending on 30th September. They are expected to select India’s squad for the Australia tour later this year.

According to reports in PTI, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), who is in charge of recruiting selectors, has confirmed that BCCI has not communicated them regarding the conduct of interviews for the soon to be vacant post in selector position. The source opined that the COVID-19 has affected all their plans.

“Yes, the CAC hasn’t been sent any intimation as of now. Obviously, the COVID-19 lockdown has put all plans in disarray and now, the focus is on IPL. Also, there is no domestic cricket being held at the moment,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Earlier this year, BCCI selected new Chief selector Sunil Joshi replacing MSK Prasad although after an extended delay. Ex-pacer Harvinder Singh was also selected in the five-member selection panel replacing Gagan Khoda.

“If you look, MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda were replaced in March 2020 and not September 2019. There is absolutely no harm if Devang, Jatin and Sarandeep help out Sunil and Harvinder for the Australia series and may be the England series.
As per the source, Devang Gandhi, Jatin Paranjape and Sarandeep Singh should continue their roles until the tour because they are well acquainted with domestic cricketer and bench strength.
They have covered domestic cricket extensively and they have a fair idea about bench strength,” the source said.

Team India’s squad for Australia will have 23-25 players:

The BCCI official also informed that like Pakistan and West Indies squad which toured England, India will also travel with 23-25 members. The extra net-bowlers might not travel but India A members can join the squad which would also help the board in conducting the first-class series ahead of the Test series.
“It is only logical that at least 23 to 25 players are carried just like Pakistan and West Indies did in England. “There is no need to call net bowlers from outside and if the players from India A squad also goes, it would help us in having a proper four-day first-class match simulation in bio-bubble,” a BCCI official, privy to the development, told PTI.
Team India players, soon after playing IPL 2020,  are expected to directly travel from UAE to Australia to play the four-match Test series as well as ODI and T20I series.
