Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami, on Saturday, had a candid chat during the live session. The Indian pacer revealed some surprising facts of his tough journey after being surrounded by personal issues. Shami said that he tried to attempt suicide on three occasions but was helped by his family to recover from the depressing state.
In 2018, Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan openly accused him of domestic violence and even said that he is having an extramarital affair. She had also included Shami’s brother in the charges. When the news broke out on media, it became a big show in public. The pacer had to face repercussions of the same. He was immediately dropped from BCCI’s central contract.
However, after the investigation of the whole case was done, he was given a clean chit. It was a stressful year for Shami, who revealed that he was unable to focus on his cricket career.
My family was scared that I would jump: Mohammed Shami
“I think if my family had not supported me back then, I would have lost my cricket. I thought of committing suicide three times during that period due to severe stress and personal problems. I was not thinking about cricket at all. We were living on the 24th floor. They (family) were scared I might jump from the balcony. My brother supported me a lot. My 2-3 friends used to stay with me for 24 hours. My parents asked me to focus on cricket to recover from that phase and not think about anything else. I started training then and sweated it out a lot at an academy in Dehradun,” Mohammed Shami told Rohit Sharma during the Instagram session.
Last year, Shami added a new record in his career. He became the second Indian cricketer to pick up a hat trick in the World Cup. With Afghanistan needing 16 runs to win in the final over, Shami produced a brilliant hat-trick, leading India to win the match.
