The Mumbai based franchise comes with a bag full of potential match-winning cricketers for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians (MI), although, has shown a winning pattern in the four titles that rest at their shelf, will enter as the most favourite team to win the IPL 2020.
The Rohit Sharma-led MI team has already won four IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019 which has earned them the tag of the Champions of this cash-rich twenty-overs league. Meanwhile, in the last edition of IPL, the team kicked off with a stunning defeat from the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first match. However, after that, they lost four more games in the last season.
Nevertheless, MI won the hearts of the IPL fans with their aggressive game in that tournament. Below are the three main reasons which make them the potential winners for another season.
Three reasons for MI to be the potential winners in the IPL 2020:
Utility buys in the auction:
The basic necessity of the auction is to rope in players that would complete the entire outlook of the squad. The IPL 2020 auction held in Kolkata, took off with the Australian cricketer Chris Lynn, who was easily roped in by MI for the base price.
Although it was shocking to witness no fight over BBL’s best batsman, MI considered it as the sheer luck. Lynn is one of the top batsmen of the Big Bash League of Australia where he became the only batsman to be able to hit 100+ sixes of the entire BBL seasons he has featured.
Meanwhile, he has also been a good performer in the IPL with increasingly good figures in the cash-rich league. In the IPL 2019, Lynn ended up scoring 405 runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who were most likely to regret releasing him ahead of the auction this year.
Apart from Lynn, MI also invested in pacer Nathan Coulter Nile and Saurabh Tiwary who would serve as a strong middle-order batsman for the team. Whereas MI also tried for Chris Morris who was later plucked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
