Sexey’s school played the first innings and made 104 runs. The 2nd innings played by The Gryphon School and in this innings Tommay stunned all the people by taking 10 wickets alone by conceding only two runs, this young heart really showed the bowlers of England how to Strike down and an entire team one handed by conceding this little amount of runs, and no one of the opponent batsman could get any runs by hitting Stewart’s ball the only 2 runs he conceded was 2 extra runs which came from the 2 wide balls he made in his five overs. The Gryphon School was all out for 24. In this Wonderful innings Stewart only bowled only five overs and from that three overs was maiden and he found himself on a hat-trick situation twice.
Sexeys Head of cricket Tom Balch said “The shell shocked Gryphon batsmen could find no answer to his medium pace.Tommy clean bowled the first four batsmen, then pouched a caught and bowled chance. He went on to bowl out the other five batsmen in two overs to dismiss The Gryphon for just 24. The only two runs he conceded were from wides. That has got to be probably the best bowling analysis in the history of the game anywhere in the world. You couldn’t have figures much better than that.”
Allen Boyd , Director of sport at the school said: “Full credit to Tommy for a truly outstanding performance, the like of which I will never see again in my lifetime.Tommy works hard at his cricket but to take ten wickets for just two runs is beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. He’s earned the match ball for sure.”
When tommy asked to share his feeling he said “I was disappointed to have got out to a poor shot when I batted and Mr Balch told me to channel my frustration into my bowling.I was just trying to bowl in good areas but the ball was swinging a bit and the wickets just kept falling.”
He added “After the sixth wicket I thought, with the lower order, I could go in and take a few more.I hoped then I could take all 10 and become famous. I think I’m the first Sexey’s School player ever to take ten wickets and I’m very proud of that”
Headmaster of Sexey’s, Irfan Latif, said, “We are proud of our cricketing heritage at Sexey’s, from the honours boards in our School Pavilion to the numerous schools we play on the tough South West cricketing circuit.Tommy Stewart’s stunning achievement last week of taking 10-2 against The Gryphon breaks all school records and possibly a few national and international ones at schoolboy level. It is testimony to his hard work and sheer dedication to the sport as well as that of the cricketing staff here at Sexey’s.”
