Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has taken yet another dig at the team management regarding the number four batsman. In a reply to Harbhajan Singh’s tweet, where he backed SuryaKumar Yadav to be team India’s number 4 batsman, Yuvraj took a subtle dig in reply to the post.

“Yaar I told you ! They don’t need any 4 top order is very strong,” he wrote on Twitter. A few days back as well, Yuvraj had taken a dig at the management with the same tweet.

Team India is struggling to get a number four batsman for long. The conundrum seemed to be solved when Yuvraj Singh made his comeback to the team in 2017. He held the position for seven months but once he was dropped, the management failed to get a suitable number four batsmen.

MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu and others batted at that position but the selectors named Vijay Shankar as the number four batsman for the World Cup.
He did not get the first go as KL Rahul got the first opportunity there. Once he moved up, Vijay came into bat in middle-order and later, Rishabh Pant batted at that position.
On the road to the World Cup 2019, Virat Kohli backed Rahane and Rayudu for that spot. Rahane lost his place in the ODI team in 2018. Rayudu looked set to play World Cup but was pipped by Vijay for that spot.

Even after the World Cup, India have not been able to find a suitable batsman for that spot. In West Indies, Rishabh batted at that position but did not do well. Shreyas Iyer, who batted at five, might be given the job going ahead. He scored two half-centres in two matches that he played at that position in West Indies.

In T20Is as well, Rishabh has been given chances and the team management is yet to ink on a number four batsman. In the third T20I against South Africa recently, the inability of the team management to identify a number four batsman almost saw both Rishabh and Iyer come out to bat at the same time.
