There was a doubt when the selectors first revealed to experiment Rohit Sharma as the Test opener during the ongoing home Test series against South Africa. However, in the early period of this experiment, Rohit has achieved huge success. After scoring twin centuries in the very first assignment of his Test opening, now he has registered another Test century as an opener in the first innings of the Ranchi Test.

India have already secured the ongoing three-match home Test series against South Africa. Before the ongoing third and final Test of this series at Ranchi, the hosts are leading this series by 2-0.

Indian captain Virat Kohli once again won the toss and decided to bat first in the Ranchi Test. But the hosts got a disappointing start as they lost the first three wickets in just around the first hour of the game. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal (10 runs), no.3-positioned batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and skipper Virat Kohli (12 runs) lost their wickets at very early. These early wickets put the hosts under pressure as they were battling on 39/3.

However, another opener Rohit Sharma is batting strongly with the no.5-positioned batsman Ajinkya Rahane. Their unbreakable century partnership is now guiding the national team to the good first innings total.

Despite the poor situation, Rohit is batting strongly in his familiar fashion and has brought out the team from a difficult situation. The right-handed opening batsman first completed his half-century in 86 balls. After completing that 50, Rohit has become more aggressive and completed his sixth Test century in 130 balls. Rohit reached the three figures with a sixer. To complete that incredible century, Rohit hit 13 fours and four sixes.

At Tea of the day, Rohit is batting on 108 runs while Rahane is not out on 74 runs. India have already scored 205/3 while the unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of Rohit-Rahane has put 166 runs.

Before this Test series, Rohit never batted as an opener in Test cricket. While Rohit first time played as a Test opener in Visakhapatnam Test, he was the hero of that game by scoring 176 and 127 runs. In the second Test of this series at Pune, Rohit scored just 14 runs. But soon Rohit has proved again his proper capacity as a Test opener with the Ranchi Test century.
