The festival of India aka IPL began at the same place which had marked the ouster of team India from the World T20. Yes, we are talking about Mumbai. The local boy, Ajinkya Rahane playing against the local team, Mumbai Indians scored a match-winning knock of 66 runs to lead Rising Pune Supergiants to an easy nine-wicket win with more than five overs remaining. The MSD led RPS made their IPL debut like they have been playing this tournament for years and won the match comprehensively.
The match was set up by the Indian speedster, Ishant Sharma, who gave early jolts to the home side by sending the openers back to the hut. And from there on, there was no looking back for the debutant RPS side. At one stage, they reduced the hosts to 68/7. Thanks to Harbhajan Singh’s nose saving 30-ball 45 run knock, MI reached a total of 121 runs though it was always going to be a cakewalk for the RPS side.
The likes of Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard failed to impress but RPS’s Mitchell Marsh dazzled as he scalped the crucial wickets of Buttler and Pandya in one over. Rajat Bhatia bowled a miserly spell and conceded only 10 runs in his 4 overs.
RPS made a dashing start, let’s see where they go in the tournament.
