Ian Chappell in a recently detailed interaction suggested that Virat Kohli would be vengeful of the horror tour of 2014 where he averaged just 13 in five Test fixture, falling victim to paceman James Anderson repeatedly.

Things such as a purple patch or good form do not apply for a batsman like Virat Kohli as he has been ever so consistent for India, for almost a decade now.

The only possible dry spell he had was falling prey to wily customer Anderson and not conquering over turfs of England.

Kohli subsequently, was a prolific scorer in the series against South Africa and Australia, which are more of bouncy wickets. Surfaces in England, offer a lot of assistance to the seamers.

I am sure he would want to avenge the last England tour. That sort of motivation brings out the best out of a player like Virat Kohli. Making the adjustments from T20 to Tests won’t be a bad thing for him. Because you are thinking of scoring runs and this gets your feet moving. So moving from a lot of IPL to England is not a bad thing for Kohli,” Ian Chappell told India Today.

No better bowler than Anderson in English conditions: Chappell

It will be a hell of a challenge. There is probably no better bowler than Anderson in English conditions. I haven’t seen a swing bowler swing the ball, both ways through such a long career. You get some guys who do it for a short while but not for such a long time. It will be a challenge for Kohli. But he appears someone who likes a challenge and with the challenge to avenge the last tour, he will play a lot better,” the 74-year old said.

James Anderson has now officially bowled the most number of deliveries in Tests.

Ian Chappell On Kohli’s captaincy:

Virat Kohli is a very good captain because he is thinking about winning and not drawing matches. The only thing I want to say about his captaincy is that he is very emotional. And I think as a captain, you have to even out your emotions than be up and down. I think in part of his maturity, he will even out. But I like the way he leads because he is aggressive and he thinks about winning,” concluded Ian Chappell.
