Want to be a professional cricketer?
Former Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan has said that the current Indian skipper, Virat Kohli is a better number 3 batsman than his predecessor, MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni has been one of the most successful batsmen for India in their history. However, he has always shuffled his batting order throughout his career due to the need of the hour.
Recently, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir had said that MS Dhoni would have been a completely different player if he would have batted at number three throughout his career. MS Dhoni broke into world cricket batting at number three when he smashed a scintillating century against Pakistan in 2005.
However, Irfan Pathan has said that he believes Virat Kohli is a better number three batsman than MS Dhoni and stated the reason behind his statement.
Irfan Pathan Believes Virat Kohli Is A Better Number 3 Batsman Than MS Dhoni
Pathan said Dhoni himself chose not to bat at No. 3, a position in which he made his mark in international cricket after making his ODI debut in 2004.
“But MS had all the chance to bat at No. 3, he didn’t. Look, I really believe that if you compare Virat and Mahendra Singh Dhoni batting at No. 3, I still feel Virat has a better technique,” Pathan said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’.
Virat Kohli Has Been Exceptional For Team India
Virat Kohli is now eighth on the list of the most runs scored by a batsman in international cricket. The Delhi-based star has a very long career ahead and the kind of form that he has been in, it seems a considerable possibility that Virat Kohli will lead this chart too.
Kohli has grabbed a whole lot of national and international honours during his stint as an international cricketer. He bagged the Arjuna Award in 2013. He was honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2017. Apart from it, he has featured in a lot of ICC teams over the years across all formats and won the best cricketer award multiple times.
