Siraj is one of those youngsters who had a great luck in bidding this year and also proved his worth well in the games. He has proved why he was bought for a whopping amount.
Being playing for the defending Champions, Hyderabad and having teammates like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and star Rashid Khan, he didn’t get overshadowed. The skipper Warner used him well and he reverted to his skipper well.
He has taken 10 wickets so far but in tonight’s game aginst Lions, he has emerged to be a star. Medium pacer Siraj turned out to be the most successful bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad, bagging four for 32. This included wickets on last two deliveries of his last over. Giving him staunch support in the middle was leggie Rashid Khan, who finished with three for 34.
Mohammed Siraj’s deadly spell for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) saw Gujarat Lions (GL) collapse for 154 in 19.2 overs after Dwayne Smith and Ishan Kishan smashed sparkling fifties in their last Indian Premier League match.
Although he had been expensive in his first spell today, giving away 22 runs from the first two overs, the Hyderabad pacer didn’t disappoint his captain when he was called up for the 13th over. He picked up two wickets in the over and gave away just two runs.
Siraj first got the dangerous Kishan with a slower delivery. Then in the 13th over, he turned out to be a match changer as Gujarat kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Rashid and Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with Siraj kept it tight.
Siraj looked pleased with his performance and thanked the seniors for supporting him.
“I’m happy with my performance. I’ve learnt a lot from the senior players in the team,” he said.
When asked about Ishan Kisan’s wicket he said:
“I was just looking to change my pace because there was no help from the wicket and it worked for me,” he said.
He also sounded a confident man when Sanjay Manjrekar asked him about his captain’s faith in him.
“I’ve proved myself whenever I’ve been given the ball…hence the captain has shown confidence in me,” he said.
He added that his great form for Hyderabad in Ranji trophy has helped him for the betterment of his performance.
“I took 41 wickets from nine games and I’ve carried that confidence from the Ranji Trophy to IPL 2017,” said the Hyderabad pacer.
Siraj comes from a lower middle-class family and such a success has been a dream for the young lad. Hope he does that more often.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has reached the playoffs for this season in IPL.
