Watch: Peter Nevill Suffers Freak Injury After Being Hit By Brad Hodge’s Bat

Australia Test wicketkeeper Peter Nevill had to leave the field mid-way through the match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades after being hit on the face by Brad Hodge’s bat.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 18th over when the Strikers needed 43 runs from the remaining 18 balls in a do or die clash. With no other option than going for the big shots, Hodge swung his bat wildly but failed to keep hold of it which flew backwards in Nevill’s direction, who was looking in the direction of the ball totally unaware of the bat.

As seen in the replays, it appeared that he was hit by the handle of the bat and was floored soon after. He was quickly attended by the team doctors and was then escorted out of the ground. Aaron Finch then took care of wicket-keeping.

Here is a clip of that mishap:

Meanwhile, the Renegades kept their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive by defeating the Strikers by six runs.
