India spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin sent back Usman Khawaja with an absolute peach of a delivery to turn the first Test on its head in Adelaide.
Usman Khawaja was giving the Indian bowlers a tough time out on the field. Despite wickets falling at regular intervals on one end, the southpaw was showing remarkable patience to keep the Indian bowlers at bay. India needed a moment of brilliance to see Khawaja’s back and their spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin rose to the occasion.
Ashwin took the pace off the delivery and bowled one which bounced pretty much off the pitch. Khawaja, on the other hand, went for a half-hearted forward push but could only manage a faint edge to the wicketkeeper. The convinced Indian fielders went up in unison only to see umpire Kumara Dharmasena giving his decision in the batsman’s favour. However, the Indian players went for the review straightaway and got the decision in their favour.

Coming to the game, India are now well on top after reducing Australia to 87 for 4. India needed a good start with the ball after managing a modest total in the first innings. The visitors recovered from a disastrous start to post a respectable 250. India’s top-order failed to get going on day one as Australia pacers wreaked havoc.
However, Cheteshwar Pujara held firm from one end and scored a stunning ton to guide India to a good total. The right-handed batsman scored 123 before being run out. On day two, India could not add a single run to their overnight score of 250 for 9 before Josh Hazlewood knocked out Mohammed Shami.
The onus was now on the bowlers to give India a good start and they have not disappointed so far. In the very first over, Ishant Sharma castled Aaron Finch for a duck to give the visitors the much-needed early breakthrough. Debutant Marcus Harris and Usman Khawaja then steadied the ship for a while by adding 45 runs before Ravichandran Ashwin struck. The India spin spearhead dismissed Harris for 26 to bring his side back in the game. After lunch, Ashwin removed Marsh cheaply before accounting for Khawaja to put India well on top.
