Watch: Rohit Sharma’s Brain-Fade Moment Ends His Promising Knock On Test Comeback

All it takes is a moment of madness to ruin a promising knock and Rohit Sharma would probably agree to it. The right-handed batsman was making his comeback to Test cricket through the ongoing first Test against Australia in Adelaide.

Rohit Sharma walked in to bat when India were in all sorts of trouble. The visitors’ top-order once again failed to deliver in overseas conditions.  Virat Kohli’s decision to bat first completely backfired as Australian bowlers made light work of India’s top-order.

KL Rahul and Murali Vijay failed to get going, departing cheaply as India found themselves 2 down for just 15. Rahul was the first to depart after he edged a Josh Hazlewood delivery to Aaron Finch in the slip. 12 runs later, Murali Vijay edged a fuller delivery from Mitchell Starc behind the stumps.

Vijay’s dismissal brought Virat Kohli in the middle. All eyes were on the India skipper but he too ended up paying the price for going for an expensive drive.

The right-handed batsman edged one from Pat Cummins which was taken brilliantly by Usman Khawaja in the gully. Kohli’s dismissal saw India reeling at 19 for 3. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane then stopped the rot for a while. However, just when it looked like the two are set for a big stand, another poor shot came back to haunt India. Rahane flashed hard at a delivery from Hazlewood which was well outside off and could only manage to edge it to the slip cordon.

It brought Rohit in the middle as the scoreboard read 41 for 4. Rohit started the proceedings on a good note, hitting a couple of sixes off Pat Cummins and as many fours to get into groove. However, his plan to unsettle spinner Nathan Lyon by taking the aggressive route brought about his downfall. On the second ball of the 38th over, Rohit hit a slog sweep which was caught by uncapped Marcus Harris at deep square leg. However,  the momentum took Harris past the ropes and Rohit heaved a sigh of relief. But on the very next delivery, he danced down the track and miscued the shot, offering an easy catch to Harris. Rohit departed after scoring 37 off 61.
