Only one week has passed and 2019 has already brought so much delight for Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma. The two spent the New Year eve in Sydney as India stood on the verge of creating history Down Under. And on Monday, the team finally achieved the long-awaited dream – the first ever Test series win in Australia. With poor weather not letting players take the field on the final day, the game ended in a draw. Consequently, India won the Test series 2-1.
India had already taken an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series after winning the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. And it became more or less clear that the visitors would not lose the fourth Test after scoring 622 for 7 in their first innings.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant starred with the bat by scoring stupendous tons while Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja scored fifties. Kuldeep Yadav then starred with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul as India bowled out the hosts for just 300. Skipper Virat Kohli then asked the home side to follow-on on day four before bad light brought a premature end to the day. The weather on day five was even more worse as no play was possible at all.
It was the third consecutive day in Sydney that was affected by either bad light or rain. Play was eventually called off, sending the Indian players and fans into delirium. Kohli and teammates celebrated by thanking supporters who had stuck around despite the showers. Kohli was then joined by his wife Anushka Sharma on the field as the lovebirds enjoyed the historic moment together.
